Tomas, with other 2 chefs, represented Lithuania among the other Baltic countries and was competing with participants from Russia, Finland, Latvia and Poland. This is the first international award for Tomas in that kind of contest.

The leading hotel chain in the Baltic countries, Reval Hotels, has appointed its Country Manager for Lithuania, Mr. Juha Mähönen on a position of Regional Director, Estonia & St. Petersburg. In this newly created position Mr. Mähönen also takes the responsibilities as General Manager of Reval Hotel Group AS, chain’s subsidiary based in Tallinn, Estonia, with 3 hotels, and the organization in the newly opened Reval Hotel Sonya in St. Petersburg, Russia, will also report to him. Mr Mähönen will start in the new position on January 18th, 2010.

“We are once more happy to be able to promote someone from within our organization”, says Mr. Heikki Vanhanen, CEO of Reval Hotels; “Juha has been doing a tremendous work in Lithuania, and we all are excited about his new position. Juha Mähönen has been working within hotel industry in his native Finland and abroad since 1982, and joined Reval Hotels in 2002 to open Reval Hotel Lietuva in Vilnius, Lithuania. Currently he manages two Reval Hotels - one in Vilnius and one in Kaunas – and two economy class Reval Inns in Vilnius and in Klaipeda. “During the time I have spent in Lithuania our team has achieved many goals and reached new heights. Although our successes have been very rewarding for me, I felt it was time to move on to new challenges”, says Juha Mähönen. “Most of all I will be missing the people – customers and colleagues – in Lithuania, but same time look forward to make new friends in Estonia and Russia.”

Juha Mähönen has an Executive MBA from Haaga University of Applied Sciences, Finland and in 2005 he complemented the education with Hotel Management program in Cornell University in Ithaca, USA.

Mr. Mähönen is an active and visible member of many organizations in Vilnius, such as the Finnish Guild and Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. Earlier this year Mr Mähönen was invited to Councillor of EHMA, European Hotel Managers Association, being the National delegate for Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Russian Federation and Sweden. Mr Mähönen is married and is a father of two children. He enjoys travelling, sports, reading and writing.

”Crime & Punishment” has been called the most St. Petersburg of all novels and the perfect guide to this fascinating city; a journey from chaos, confusion and selfishness to hope, love and compassion. As ”Conscience” represents the standard room level, the ”Ego” suite has been inspired by Raskolnikov’s wish to become ”a Napoleon” who exists at his own superior level.

Furthermore, every guest room has its own unique door sign with a certain sentence from a specific part of ”Crime & Punishment” in Russian and English— prompting guests to spend just a little time in contemplation of the message of a Russian literary classic.

On the first floor of the hotel, the stylish restaurant and bar “Metamorfos” invites guests to experience Russian and European cuisine, complete with striking contrasts and pleasant surprises. The menu is created in a book format — its prologue, chapters and epilogue, present dishes with fascinating stories. Studying the menu will inform diners about the 19th century, the era of Dostoevsky, and of Rodion Raskolnikov’s Saint Petersburg. Guests will discover much about Dostoevsky’s travels to Europe, and also about the development of his mind and the inner transformation of his soul. The regeneration of the soul is expressed in everything: from the variety of materials used, in the formation of the interior, the creative embodiment of recipes from modern Russian cuisine, to the surprising combinations of ingredients and flavors.

You can relish the bird's eye-view of Paris from the Eiffel Tower, New York's glass and metal jungle is best enjoyed from the top floors of Empire State Building, whereas London’s lively day and night life is revealed in all its glory from a cabin of the gigantic London Eye.

Reval Hotel Latvija to Open New Nightclub in Riga – “Amber Night”

The Reval Hotel Latvija is proud to announce that on April 17 of this year, a new nightclub, “Amber Night,” will be opened on the hotel’s premises, offering a dynamic atmosphere which will allow guests to enjoy the very best that nightlife in Rīga can offer.

“Amber Night” is meant for people who wish to relax in a sparkling and unforced atmosphere, cooling off after a hot working week or spending an exciting evening with good friends. The club’s target audience is people aged 25 and over, which means no wild and uncontrollable teenagers. Visitors will be able to enjoy an environment that is pleasant and relaxing if that’s what they want.

The club has several different areas – the main room, as well as a lounge area. The idea is to offer cosiness for those who wish to converse with their friends, as well as a place where visitors can dance to the best music of the 1980s, 1990s and today. In mid-April, the club will open a hall with room for 300-350 people. Later, there will be a second area which will allow for another 400 guests to enjoy the nightclub.

“Our aim was to establish a place for entertainment and relaxation for the hotel’s guests and for local residents. ‘Amber Night’ is not focused on the elite. We want everyone to feel good and to have a great time – everyone who has not yet found the perfect spot for relaxation and entertainment in Rīga,” says club director Aleksejs Kučers.

“Amber Night” will also have musical theme nights with performances by local and foreign DJs and performers.

“An exciting interior, many seats, a large dance hall and good prices will ensure that guests enjoy nice and friendly entertainment. “Amber Night” will wonderfully expand on the entertainment opportunities that our hotel provides, and we will be offering a high-quality space for guests to Rīga,” says the club’s director.

“Amber Night” will be open from Tuesday until Saturday from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, thus allowing friends or colleagues to enjoy the facilities after busy workdays, too.

Inspired by one of the supreme masterpieces of world literature - Crime & Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky - Reval Hotels, the leading hotel chain in the Baltic countries start their expansion in Russia.

Reval Hotel Sonya will be a contemporary and very personal 4-star hotel in the heart of St. Petersburg, close to Liteiny bridge and the Neva river.

Inspired by St. Petersburg and Russia itself, the keyword for the hotel has been transformation. Transformation is also the theme for Crime & Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, the world famous novel that is often called the ultimate guide to St. Petersburg and one of the greatest interpretations of the limitless depths of the Russian soul.

Since it was written in 1866, Crime & Punishment has been an important source of inspiration for a great number of artists, writers and directors. Edvard Munch, Japanese manga, Kafka, Ingmar Bergman, Woody Allen, Quentin Tarantino… Now, 143 years later, it’s time for the hotel.

At Reval Hotel Sonya, the Russian touch will be apparent in everything from the interior design to the menu at the restaurant. The hotel will offer 173 exciting guestrooms, a lively restaurant and bar, fitness centre, conference rooms, courtyard with banquet facilities and free WiFi throughout hotel.
